999S to 1038R Rebuild
The bike began it's life as a 999S -06 with 6000kms on it.
We were aiming for an engine with broad power yet good top end. The heads
and cylinders have been redesigned and rebuilt by Erik Larsson at Proservice
here in Sweden. Specs are:
- 102mm hc pistons and cast iron cylinders (40cc up)
- Rebuilt heads, intakes are much smaller high velocity style, exhaust
welded up in the bottom
- 749R cams, timing 109/108
- Exhaust is the dp-slipon same 1-1 type as original but no cat and open
muffler.
I dynoed the bike before modifications and now after, same dyno same operator
(me), remembering this one as the best 999S I've dynoed at high 130's.
It now has the same power at 7700 that it had at 9700 before, and lurking
around 9000 at the straight will give 150+ all the time, keeping stress
of the cases low and rockers happy.
